Case Studies

Harrods

In June 2008, Macro Art won a hotly contested contract to wrap the facade of the worlds most famous store whilst it underwent cleaning and repair.

Macro Art was responsible for the whole project - from artwork creation (a clever mix of photography and image manipulation) through to pre press, printing and finishing, installing and lighting.

The 3000 square meter wrap was produced in 3 pieces and installed using Macro Art's 'hidden join' technology which creates a perfect seamless image. The project took 3 days to install.

The client was so impressed by the wrap that Macro Art have continued to work with Harrods on two smaller projects on the Hans Road elevation of the store.

O2 Arena 2007 - Providing Solutions

The O2 Arena is one of the largest entertainment venues in London, covering over 250,000 sq.ft. When Anschultz Entertainment Group (AEG) acquired and re-branded the Millennium Dome into the O2 Arena, they required reliable experts to offer a total package of huge-format signage, print, and installations for this massive venue:

  • Macro Art provided AEG with engineering advice and calculations for the largest and most technically-challenging installations, as well as supplying sign-boxes.
  • Macro Art used its project management expertise to achieve industry-leading 12 hour turn-around times. From printing and finishing art-work by 4pm, we used abseilers and access platforms to install from 3am the next day.
  • by working as an integrated team with our three client partners, Macro Art was awarded a five-year contract for huge-format advertising and digital print services at the O2.

Liverpool 2008 - Capital of Culture

When Liverpool municipal administrators required a huge-format building wrap for the centre-piece of their 2008 celebrations they came to Macro Art. The brief was a technical challenge: the building is over 40m tall, and all sides require a continuous wrap with printed images. The installation itself required meticulous planning and technical experise to cope with gale force winds on this site next to the River Mersey, and the print itself covered 3,300 sq.m. weighing over 1,250kg.

The installation was complete and ready by 6pm Friday 11 January, when Ringo Starr performed in front of the building wrap to a live audience of 100,000 people and a television audience of 300 million.

From start to finish, Macro Art delivered this huge-format job within five weeks over the busy Christmas and New Year holiday period and along-side 465 existing jobs.
